Shawnigan lake has been a popular summer recreation area for
over a century, and being only 48 km north of Victoria, it
is a convenient retreat for many Victorians.
Many cottages and vacation homes can be found along the
lake, offering great accommodations for families who love
the outdoors and everything that goes with it.
West Lake Shawnigan boasts a small day-use provincial park,
offering swimming, paddling and trout fishing, as well as
picnic areas, toilets and short walking trails.
The village of Shawnigan Lake, on the eastern shore, has a
boat launch, two general stores, three restaurants, a few
other shops and an excellent museum. Also the village is
well known as a venue for arts and crafts shows.
The north-east end of the village consists of residential
developments as well as many summer cabins and a large
lakeside park. Numerous hiking trails can be found on the
more undeveloped south end of the lake.
For the golfer there are a few gold courses in the area
including Cowichan Golf and Country Club in Duncan, Duncan
Meadows Golf Course and Arbutus Ridge Golf Club in nearby
Cobble Hill.
In short, a vacation at Shawnigan Lake will rejuvenate you
and give you welcome respite from our busy computerized
world, especially if you rent a lakefront vacation home or
cottage directly from the owner.
