The State of Yucatan with many colonial
cities, abounds with Mayan ruins and impressive remnants of a once
vibrant civilization. Roads are good. Well known Mayan ruin sites such
as Chichen Itza , is a two hour drive, Uxmal about 1-1/2 hours.
Dizibilchaltum is 20 minutes.
Cancun is three and a half hours by toll road. The Mexican Riviera is 4
hours drive to the east, with many natural attractions, extends 100
miles south of Cancun.
Central Plazas are the hub of life in all towns and interesting to
observe. The lovely coastal town of Campeche, built by the Spanish, has
6 old forts to explore, built to protect the town from marauding pirates
of old.
Most of the Merida theater concerts and events are free. Obtain tickets
in person at the splendid old theaters for all events. Yucatan's capital
city, Merida, has an historic town center, with four theaters, many
