The town of Makawao is found in Up Country Maui and is referred to
as a cowboy town or "Paniolo" in Hawaiian. The town has some
interesting shops and restaurants as well as many galleries which
use the old store fronts to keep in character with the setting.
Makawao is the hub of the local farming and ranching community and
is also the location for an annual rodeo. Every 4th of July
weekend for more than 40 years, the Maui Roping Club has been
hosting the Makawao rodeo, Hawaii's largest Paniolo competition.
Makawao vacation rentals include private vacation homes, Plantation
houses, cabins, cottages, spa retreats, condos and bed and breakfast
inns.
