About St. Maartin/St. Martin

St. Maartin/St. Martin is the smallest island in the world divided between two sovereign powers, St. Maarten being under Dutch control and St. Martin ruled by the French.  The international airport on the Dutch side serves them both and has made St. Martin a major Caribbean vacation destination.  The French side is home to luxury hotels and villas, excellent restaurants, long white sand beaches and excellent shopping all presented with a French flair.  Almost every kind of water sport is to be found on the island mainly on the French side in Orient Bay and Grand Case.

St. Maarten occupies the southern 17 square miles of the 37 square mile island.  Phillipsburg the Dutch capital since 1768, is widely known for its colonial architecture, duty free shopping and many cafes and night clubs including casinos. During carnival time the island offers a two week festival of feasting, street dancing, parties and parades.
