A claim to fame for the Hanalei area is that the movie South Pacific was filmed primarily on adjoining Lumahai Beach.  Also of interest the children's song "Puff the Magic Dragon", written by Peter, Paul and Mary, speaks of a dragon frolicking in the autumn mist in a fantasy land called Honah Lee.  There is a theory that this place was perhaps symbolically representing the real Hawaiian town of Hanalei.
