Okanagan Falls, locally known as OK Falls is a
charming community located on the southern end of Skaha Lake in the Okanagan
Valley of British Columbia. Skaha Lake, translated as Dog Lake in English, was
named by the Okanagan First Nations people, so it is no wonder that Okanagan
Falls was originally called Dogtown.
The name was later changed to Okanagan Falls because of small twin waterfalls
that used to be located at the southern end of Skaha Lake where it emptied into
the Okanagan River.
Okanagan Falls enjoys one of the mildest climates in Canada boasting high annual
hours of sunshine so it is natural that many tourists visit this area for
their summer vacation.
The area has many attractions worthy of note and which can be enjoyed by staying
in a local vacation home as your base.
Still a thriving agricultural area, Okanagan Falls offers fresh fruits and
vegetables, delicious dried fruits and award winning wines from the nearby
wineries. Going on a wine tour is a great way to indulge in the flavors of this
region without the stress of driving.
Another tasty pleasure and one you won't want to miss is an ice-cream cone from
the one and only Tickleberry's, where you can find ice cream in all flavors, and
many fine gifts and sundries as a bonus.
Outdoor recreation is easy to find here and visitors can enjoy hiking, biking
and horseback riding on the miles of easily accessible trails. Other activities
include rock climbing, water sports, fishing as well as golfing on several
championship courses. Wildlife viewing is plentiful and you may catch a glimpse
of bighorn sheep, deer and quail nearby, or moose, cougar, elk and bear if you
venture into the
surrounding mountains. Winter holidays are also popular and nearby Apex Mountain
offers downhill skiing, cross country skiing, tubing, skating and more.
No matter what you plan to do during your stay in the Southern Okanagan, it is
comforting to return to your own Okanagan Falls vacation rental and relax at the
end of a fun filled day.
